Event Description

GLP-1 Therapies have transformed the clinical management of obesity and related metabolic disease, and this has resulted in new clinical concerns such as gastrointestinal side-effects, obesity-associated nutritional insufficiencies, poor long-term adherence and limited real-world efficacy.

Practical, evidence-based strategies supporting the weight loss journey, from before starting a GLP-1 therapy, during the weight loss and weight maintenance phases, and in case of discontinuation, are needed for health professionals practicing nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

This important event brings together leading researchers and clinicians working in this area to provide insights that inform clinical practice. Topics feature the first international consensus recommendations developed to support the GLP-1 therapy weight loss journey and the related topics of ultra processed food addition, personalised nutrition including continuous blood glucose monitoring, and the role of nutritional therapy.

All attendees will receive:

  • 4-hours of CPD approved education
  • Lecture notes
  • Supplementary research papers
  • Clinical tool and resources
  • Lunch and refreshments
  • Free sample products

Professor Javier Gonzalez is interested in human fuel use. How we get fuel from our diet, burn fuels during exercise; and store fuels when they exceed our requirements.

Professor Javier Gonzalez’s research group employs a variety of methods to understand human fuel use, including indirect calorimetry, tissue biopsies and stable isotope (IV) infusion and ingestion. They use these methods across laboratory-based and free-living studies to answer basic science and practically-relevant questions.

Professor Javier Gonzalez joined the Department for Health at the University of Bath in 2014 as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) before being promoted to Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2017, Reader (Associate Professor) in 2020 and Professor of Nutrition and Metabolism in 2022.
